The Types of Scaffoldings Available For Hire

Posted on: 23 September 2017

You may wonder how people like painters can reach several top floors with no structural support offered by the building, well the answer is scaffolding. This is a structure which is used in the provision of support during construction works. The types defer according to work being done. They also have to be firm and well-built to sustain the workers or materials placed on them. Before hiring a scaffolding structure, here are some of the types worth knowing about:

1. Suspended Scaffolding -- When looking to work on a tall building, say a skyscraper. Then the most likely scaffolding type for you to adopt is the suspended one. They are used for tasks such as repairs and paintings and are suspended from the roofs with either wire ropes or chains. The suspension is designed in a way that the scaffolding can be lowered or lifted to the desired working level. They also have safety barriers which prevent the workers from falling off the platform.

2. Kwikstage Scaffolding – The kwikstage scaffolding is also another unique type in the category used to access multilevel platforms at the same time. The entire system is made from sturdy galvanised steel and is simple to assemble and take down. The system has a safe and strong interlocking system which gives it the strength required to hold the weights of both the workers and the materials. One advantage of the kwikistag scaffolding system is that it can be built to any height without the danger of falling apart or toppling off.

3. Trestle Scaffolding – When looking to work inside a room, then the best scaffolding to hire would be the trestle scaffolding. This features a working platform supported by either adjustable tripods or ladders. The scaffolding is capable of reaching a maximum height of 5 metres and is used for paintings or repairs within wall confinements.

4. Single Scaffolding – Also referred to as bricklayer scaffolding, single scaffolding is utilised for the purpose of brick masonry. This scaffolding type is comprised of putlogs, ledgers as well as standards which are constructed in correspondence to the wall. The structure of the scaffolding is quite simple and masons use it for brickworks.

5. Double Scaffolding – Similar to the single scaffolding, this is also used for stone masonry. The scaffolding can be referred to as mason's scaffolding due to its association with the trade. When working with the walls, it is challenging to make holes on the walls which therefore calls for the application of the double scaffolding. Here, two rows are made to ensure that the structure is robust. The first row in this scaffolding is usually between 20-30 centimetres from the wall while the second row being a metre from the first row. Once the putlogs are well positioned and supported by the frames, the scaffolding is made studier through the use of rakers and braces.

Colin's Construction Tips

Hello, my name is Colin and this is my construction blog. I am not a construction professional but I do take a keen interest in how to design and build different aspects of a residential home. My interest was sparked when I decided to install an extension on the back of my home in Sydney, Australia. I called in a couple of expert contractors who guided me through the entire process. I learnt so much that after the work was complete, I continued to read and research things. I decided to start this blog to help out others who are interested in construction.
