4 Jobs a Concrete Contractor Can Complete Around Your Home

Posted on: 10 March 2021

If you have never hired a concrete contractor before, you may have questions about the type of work they do. Here are three jobs that a concrete contractor can complete around your home. Read on to find out everything you need to know!

Removing damaged concrete

If your concrete driveway or patio is damaged beyond repair, you will need to remove the concrete and replace it. This job can be completed by a concrete contractor. The process is known as break-up and removal. The contractors will use grinders, jackhammers and other tools to remove damaged concrete. The pieces of concrete will be collected together and disposed of by the team. The workers will also take precautions to protect other areas of your property from the dust created when removing concrete. Once this is done, they can lay down fresh concrete in place of the damaged material.

Grinding a floor

If your floor has become uneven or warped, you may want to grind it until it is smooth. A concrete contractor will be able to grind the surface until it meets your specifications. This process can be used on both exterior and interior concrete floors. Concrete contractors have grinding machines which they use to smooth the surface of concrete floors. These rotary polishing machines have diamond bits attached to steel drums. These drums are spun at high speeds to polish the concrete floor and grind down the concrete to achieve a flat surface that is smooth and level.

Drilling holes in walls

If you have concrete walls or floors which need holes drilled into them, this job can be completed by a contractor. Drilling holes is a common part of many concrete jobs. The contractor may use a core drill or diamond drill bit to make holes in load-bearing walls or they may use a hole saw-bit in non-load bearing walls. The contractor will drill these holes at predetermined locations, allowing electrical cables and drainage pipes to be installed.

Waterproofing concrete surfaces

Finally, a contractor can apply a waterproof coat to concrete structures around your home. This will help to protect the surface from corrosion and damage caused by moisture penetrating deep into the concrete and damaging the reinforced steel within.

For more information about concrete contractors and the work that they can complete for you, you should contact a local company. They can provide additional details regarding concrete removal and drilling.

Colin's Construction Tips

Hello, my name is Colin and this is my construction blog. I am not a construction professional but I do take a keen interest in how to design and build different aspects of a residential home. My interest was sparked when I decided to install an extension on the back of my home in Sydney, Australia. I called in a couple of expert contractors who guided me through the entire process. I learnt so much that after the work was complete, I continued to read and research things. I decided to start this blog to help out others who are interested in construction.
