Three Common Home Additions That Require Excavation Work

Posted on: 16 November 2021

If you are thinking of renovating your home or adding in any of the following features, then your home will need excavation work done at some point in the future. This excavation work has to be performed not only by people who are specialists in this area of construction, but also those with tools and equipment that many other tradies do not carry. Make sure that if you want something done properly, you go straight to the experts whose whole job revolves around this process so that you don't have any middlemen getting in the way of your desired construction outcome.

Pool Excavation

Pools can contain hundreds of thousands of litres of water and even smaller, more residential pools will still contain tens of thousands of litres. All that water needs to go somewhere, and that means you need to excavate several cubic metres of earth at a bare minimum. If you want your pool space to be dug out evenly and in a timely fashion, you need an excavation service that has done pool excavations in the past. This is especially true if you are getting a more uniquely designed pool with many twists and turns that require additional planning.

Basement Excavation

Adding a basement to an already existing house is a tricky process that requires a level of finesse and polish. These sorts of excavations can take quite a bit of time, and they need to be planned out properly so that you don't endanger the foundations or the safety of the structure on top. However, that does not mean it is impossible, and many homes and businesses add a new room to the bottom of their home. Doing so can increase the value of your house dramatically, especially if you live in a more pent up area that doesn't allow you to expand outwards.

Water Tank Excavation

Water tanks are an invaluable asset to all Australian's, given how arid the climate can be. Most water tanks are kept underground if possible because this provides natural insulation for the water while still leaving you as much room as you could possibly want. Water tank excavations might not seem as big as the above two projects, but you still need to ensure that you do not hit any important utilities (such as gas, water or electricity). You also need to be sure that you can remove and safely rehouse all the earth that you dig up. Profesional excavation companies make this easy and ensure you have your water tank in place as quick as possible.

Colin's Construction Tips

Hello, my name is Colin and this is my construction blog. I am not a construction professional but I do take a keen interest in how to design and build different aspects of a residential home. My interest was sparked when I decided to install an extension on the back of my home in Sydney, Australia. I called in a couple of expert contractors who guided me through the entire process. I learnt so much that after the work was complete, I continued to read and research things. I decided to start this blog to help out others who are interested in construction.
